  THE FAMILY WEEK EXPERIENCE
Sponsored by the Family Pride Coalition and COLAGE, Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere
July 29 - August 5, 2000
Provincetown, Massachusetts
Everywhere you go, you'll see other families like yours -- strolling along, playing, socializing. Before you know it, you'll be swapping babysitting, making dinner plans with new friends, and having the vacation of a lifetime.
- Tim Fisher, volunteer organizer of Family Week
Five years ago, Family Pride Coalition introduced "Family Week" in Provincetown, Massachusetts -- designed to be a gay-friendly, family vacation experience. We wanted it to be more affordable than a traditional conference, meeting more needs, and reaching and empowering more parents and children. By hosting simple events each day -- a bagel brunch, a whale watch, a beach picnic, or a sandcastle competition -- we brought families together. The program has been phenomenally successful. With little advertising, the event has grown each year to over 350 families (from all over the world) who enjoyed the unique P'Town atmosphere this past summer. This year, in addition to Family Week in Provincetown, we have added a Family Week in Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan.

THE COST
The registration cost for Provincetown Family Week is only $25 per family. Families find their own housing and pay for all meals. There will be a bagel brunch and an evening barbecue at no charge. Depending on your family's budget, you can rent a house or go camping -- whatever accommodations work best for you. We do ask you to please send in an official registration card (with your payment) so that we have an accurate count of families to assist us in our planning and preparation.

Provincetown, at the tip of Cape Cod, is a gay Mecca, an artists and travelers dream. There is a thriving nightlife, hundreds of unique shops, fine restaurants and miles of beach. The charm of P'Town is unlike any place in the world. The major promenade "Commercial Street" is filled with tourists, families and LGBT parents and kids from early morning to well past midnight. Each year, our Family Week in P'Town gets bigger and better than the year before...over 350 families attended last year. COLAGE provides activities for teenagers and young adult family members. Families with younger children will have opportunities each morning to connect and recreate.

Attendees find their own housing and pay for all meals. Depending on your family's budget, you can rent a house or go camping.
The best way to secure accommodations is to call:

Provincetown Reservations at 1.800.648.0364 or
In Town Reservations at 1.800.67.PTOWN.

The schedule of events will be sent to you when you register, but typical activities are: a welcoming gathering, bagel brunch, family fun fair, clam bake, Love Makes a Family Photo-Text exhibit, Beach BBQ, Sandcastle competition, boat rides, whale watching, pool parties, beach campfires and toddler play times. There will also be workshops and social gathering for parents, a family dinner dance, and lots or R &R time.
