  THE FAMILY WEEK EXPERIENCE
Sponsored by the Family Pride Coalition and COLAGE, Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere
July 15-21, 2000
Saugatuck/Douglas, Michigan

For the first time, we bring the concept of Family Week to the Midwest vacation spot of Saugatuck and Douglas, Michigan. Located on the shores of Lake Michigan and on the banks of the Kalamazoo River. Saugatuck, is known as the "Cape Cod of the Midwest." A beautiful artists' colony with beautiful beaches and towering sand dunes, Saugatuck/Douglas is a popular destination for lesbian and gay visitors and the perfect location for Family Week 2000.

From downtown Saugatuck or neighboring Douglas (just across the river), you can walk to almost everything. Take a leisurely stroll along the boardwalk. Picnic by the gazebo in the park overlooking the harbor. Ride a hand-cranked Victorian ferry. Charter a sailboat; board an old-fashioned steam wheeler. Have an ice cream soda or malted at the corner soda fountain. But best of all, join other families like yours for all the relaxing fun. You and your children will never forget it!

THE COST
For Family Week in Saugatuck, the registration is only $25 per family. Families find their own housing and pay for all meals. There will be a bagel brunch and an evening barbecue at no charge. Depending on your family's budget, you can rent a house or go camping -- whatever accommodations work best for you. We do ask you to please send in an official registration card (with your payment) so that we have an accurate count of families to assist us in our planning and preparation.

The best way to secure accommodations for your family is to contact the:

Saugatuck/Douglas Convention and Visitor's Bureau

You'll want to act fast (by late spring, many popular places are fully booked). You'll also want to ask for "gay/lesbian-friendly lodging."

The Dunes Resort in Douglas -- gay-owned and operated -- is the Midwest's largest gay and lesbian resort. The owners have been very helpful in helping us in planning Family Week and have some additional properties (further away from the crowded pool/tea dance area) that may be of interest to people.
Contact Mike Jones or Greg Trzybinski at .

For house rentals:
We've heard good things about Shore Line Realty. Ask for Sandy Shannahan
and Mill Pond Realty

The schedule of events will be sent to you when you register, but typical activities are: a welcoming gathering, bagel brunch, family fun fair, clam bake, Love Makes a Family Photo-Text exhibit, Beach BBQ, Sandcastle competition, boat rides, whale watching, pool parties, beach campfires and toddler play times. There will also be workshops and social gathering for parents, a family dinner dance, and lots or R&R time.

COLAGE ACTIVITIES
Children of Lesbians and Gays Everywhere (COLAGE) will be joining us in Saugatuck and Provincetown. They will have activities for teens and young adults. COLAGE will organize workshops, social gatherings, games, campfires and more. In addition, they are planning a workshop for children, ages 9-12.
